Zum Glück für alle nutzen Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael und Michelangelo ihre Künste im Ninja-Kampf, um Verbrecher zu jagen und die Stadt sicherer zu machen. Als Motivation reicht unseren Helden ihre Leibspeise: Pizza in rauen Mengen! Nur ihr Meister, die mutierte Ratte Splinter und die Fernsehreporterin April O?Neil kennen ihre Identität. Aber das Geheimnis der Superhelden ist bedroht? Kevin Eastman und Peter Laird zeichneten in den 80er Jahren die ersten Comics über die vier Ninja-Schildkröten und die Ratte Ninjutsu. Geplant war das Ganze als Parodie auf andere Comics wie zum Beispiel "Ronin" und "Daredevil". Die beiden Zeichner veröffentlichten die Comics im Eigenverlag und ernteten damit soviel Erfolg, dass sie anfingen, die Welt der Turtles weiter auszubauen. Eine der erfolgreichsten Comicserien außerhalb der großen Marvel-Comics war geboren.

Über ihre Köpfe hinweg wurde aus der düsteren, ironischen und brutalen Comicserie eine kindgerechte Zeichentrickserie. Das ging soweit, dass zum Beispiel in England nicht einmal das Wort "Ninja" im Titel vorkommen durfte und die Serie deshalb in"Hero Turtles" umbenannt werden musste. Trotzdem wurde die Serie ein voller Erfolg und so wurde 1990 dann sogar ein Kinofilm produziert, der sich mehr an den Comics orientierte und für viele Kinobesuche sorgte. Das war auch der Höhepunkt der Turtles-Zeit und jede Menge Merchandising überschwemmte den Markt. Die ersten 25 Folgen dieser Serie kommen nun auf den Markt! Die DVD-Box von NewKSM präsentiert die Folgen in Deutsch und Englisch (jeweils Dolby Digital 2.0) sowie im Bildformat 4:3 (Vollbild). Alle Folgen liegen sowohl in der deutschen Fassung als auch in der teilweise anders geschnittenen US-Version vor.
